Revolutionary Move from MG in Electric Vehicles: In 1 Year…

Ana sayfa / News

Speaking at the Chengdu Auto Show last week, SAIC’s Executive Vice President, Yu Jingmin, announced that this new battery technology, developed internally, will be used in many of the electric vehicle models under the SAIC umbrella. These models include the premium IM brand and the more affordable Wuling brand in China.

The successful implementation of solid-state batteries will occur 12 months ahead of the company’s original schedule, putting MG and other SAIC brands ahead in the electric vehicle race.

While Toyota aims to release similar technology by 2028 and Volkswagen has partnered with the U.S. research firm QuantumScape, no exact timelines have been given. This positions MG at least 2-3 steps ahead in the solid-state battery competition.

Chinese MG may produce in Turkey!

After the additional tax on Chinese cars, MG said that it is interested in local production in Turkey.

Although detailed information on MG’s new SSB technology has not been disclosed yet, SAIC’s sister company IM Motor has introduced the L6 Saloon model, which features one of the early examples of this technology. IM Motor claims that these batteries offer double the energy density compared to current lithium-iron-phosphate batteries.

As a result, a 133 kWh battery can be installed without affecting interior space or significantly increasing the vehicle’s weight. This model offers a range of 1,083 km, according to China’s Light Vehicle Test Cycle, and can add 400 km of range in just 12 minutes using high-powered fast chargers.

In short, this breakthrough could double the range of electric cars, and it’s expected to be available very soon. Let’s see how developments unfold!
